Rudy Rips

Our after school programs are some of the few reasons why I haven't quit City Year months ago. This is Rudy, he's in 2nd grade. He's smarter then most of the 7th graders I teach. He dances. Well.

This is more of our after school students "vandalizing" our school with sidewalk chalk per my suggestion. We were promptly made to clean it shortly thereafter.

These are a couple of my pieces.

And this is the view from the roof of the medical center that two of my cohorts and I got caught sneaking up to during a break from not very important meetings two weeks ago. I blamed City Year for why I was up there in the first place. A month and a half to go.

R.I.P. Guru

It seems like too many people are dying these days. I know its a little bit different when a celebrity dies, cus everyone knows about it, but it just seems like its more then usual lately. I'll never forget the first time I listened to Gangstarr when I went on a family trip to Colorado when I was like 12. It was a miserably awesome trip full of fantastic memories, but one of the main ones was how many times we listened to "You Know My Steez" off of the Moment of Truth album. I learned every word to that song over the week we were there, and still to this day spit with Guru when it gets its spin on my pod. Years later I never would have thought that I would have given the rest of the album as many listens as I have, let alone watch it slowly creep into my top 10 all time favorite hip hop albums. Guru had some incredible things to say, which unfortunately got overshadowed by Public Enemy at the time, but I will forever appreciate his words from this disc. R.I.P. Keith Elam aka Guru.

beyond infinity

If you call yourself a friend of mine you would know that 1. my birthday is in a month, and 2. that Toy Story has and always will be my favorite movie of all time. With that being said, here is a nifty little website with some nifty little t shirts. I hope you know what to do from here. I'm an adult small. Hopefully everyone can collaborate to get me different shirts. And don't forget the IV's I was asking for too. Thanks.

IV ever

The Nike Air Jordan IV has basically been my favorite shoe since I was a tiny little boy. Jordan was wearing em when he put Craig Ehlo's name in the history book, and some day I'd like to be wearing them when I put mine in the book. I WILL one day own this shoe. My shoe size is 10 - 10.5 and my birthday is a little under a month and a half away. For anyone concerned or wondering.

santiago and dunbar

Can't get enough of this movie.

A Lo from the block

Props to my homie Andrew for straight slaughtering all stand up competition at Veisha this year. He's no Mike Jones, from 2007, which was ill, shout outs to Mattie, Schmizz and Ells, but he certainly tore that shit up. Don't forget about me when your semi famous opening up for Aziz my friend. I'm without a doubt the OCD klepto.

Yea, dis P

Lyrical colonic

Careful as he wakes, from his hyperbolic
Emerging from the underground, never from the closet
Blunts full of chronic, makin him demonic
Getting all brolic spittin vitriolic
Watch me as I frolick through your neurologic.
Shakin your perceptions like plate tectonics.
Reign man status, Supersonic
Full-grown flow, you’re embryonic.
Hydroponics, got me buzzin louder then electronics
Ninth place flow, you’re so Plutonic,
And I’m killing everything like Bubonic.

live from south philly

What up world? It's sway reporting live on MTV news. Don't know why I opened with that, I just miss when Sway would be fly on MTV. Back when music played. Sometimes. It had been brought to my attention that I really haven't made any significant posts outside of classic music videos. Not ashamed. With that said, the move to South Philly has been a Blueprint 2. The low rent and convenient location has been paying dividends already, and it's only been a few weeks. The neighborhood is super diverse, and overall a B on friendliness, and pretty much no threat to personal safety. There is however, an excessive amount of trash in a 3 block radius of the house, ranging from fast food wrappers, to full piles of uncollected nastiness. It's gross as is, but the fact that my dog is not used to this amount of awesome, it takes us half an hour to get across the street. If trash smells were to dogs what coke sniffing is to humans, I can only assume that he's the Tony Montana of the block.
Work has been Vol. 2 without a Reasonable Doubt. All of our projects are within weeks of being launched, and fund raising Dead Presidents has caused nothing but 99 Problems. I'll be damn glad when 2 months have passed and I'm done with City Year, but it really has opened up my passion for education once again. On the one hand I am really starting to fall for Philadelphia, and especially my students, I can't bare the thought of them continuing their academics without my motherly eye. But on the other hand I miss my home, I miss my family, I miss my friends, and I miss the Midwest. Sometimes I wanna just run home crying and jump into my mom's arms and just have her fix everything for me, and other days I wanna plant myself in the city and just setup base camp. Who knows where I'll be in 2 months. Hopefully never in a red jacket ever again, I do know that. I can and will Knock that Hustle.
Music has lately been disappointing, and found myself blastin the same shit. Gorillaz new album is still spinnin, but besides that its still Chip and Curren$y with some various appearances from the usual freshman '09 and '10 suspects. I need some new albums or mc's or something. Both preferably. There has been one candle in the dark in Jay Electronica. The name is lame, but he spits that "God Hop" that is on a Lupe Fiasco level. Which is not something I toss around lightly. If you don't believe me download his Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind track, catch a paper plane, and let him single handedly deconstruct everything you thought you knew about music. The only downside to my new discovery, no scratch that, reawakening is that the meat of his workload is from a few years ago, and people have been waiting on his last mixtape apparently for months now. Regardless, you can label me a stan and The Watcher 2, I'll be scooping up anything I can find from his midas touch.

Misdameanor

Had to throw some Missy in the mix for Throwback Thursdays after bumpin some of her throwbacks on the way home from work today. She was always the illest femcee and had awesome videos. The Timbaland beats never hurt either.
